Also stop telling yourself you can’t do *tech* or whatever. You can, it just is you are learning and once you get through that phase - they’ll change the platform and you’ll nail it like an IT genius. If you tell yourself you can 🌟
I’ve kind of already done this a couple of times - and hope I will do so always. In my mid 40s I had swimming lessons to learn front crawl properly so I could train to do a channel relay. I learnt a lot about open water swimming and discovered a fear of swimming into jellyfish. Then in March 22 at the grand old age of 49 ( was 50 a few months later) I started a very academic course in fundraising. That was tough - I don’t think I even used such strict rules for presenting work in my degree in the 90s. Then a few months in my dad died and I put it on hold, started up again and a few months after that I was diagnosed with breast cancer - so put it on hold again. I think I needed an extension for every one of the four hand in dates. However, after 2 years, instead of 1, I not only passed the course but achieved a merit. Ironically by then I wasn’t working in fundraising any more. But the things I learned are still relevant in other areas of life and business.
I really hope I go on learning - because that is what life is all about. It’s also easier to write about something if you have experience of it :)
I remember saving to go travelling and when i turned 30 I told myself it was too late.
The story I told myself was that it time to “settle down; buy a house, move forward in my career. 6 years later I had a breakdown. It got even worse beyond that (disability by chronic illness).
I lost everything. But in the pile of all the rubble, I found myself.
Found myself living in a caravan on a site that closed 2 months of the year.
Before you know it, I’m in Thailand for 2 months, dreams coming true!
Now I’m 45 and planning to spend a whole lifetime travelling the world🌎
A rock singer? You've got me floored Lisa! My midlife flucking flourishing moment was to finally quit the job that brought stability but also chronic insanity to finally follow my heart and build a space for women to thrive. It's flucking scary, but I'm flucking doing it :)
Yep!! We do two to four gigs a year. I started as back up singer and now lead most of the songs. So much fun!!!
Quitting the job is scary! I moved to Finland from Australia at 44 and it didn’t feel scary but led to many scary and exhilarating things, like signing in a rock band. Good on you!
Brilliant piece Lisa! I started my MBA at 47 finished at 50. I had my first book published at 59. I’m now 60 and am learning a new language. 🤷♀️
Fantastic!!! Sometimes I hear people say “I’m too old”. What a crock of shit! I run an English Conversation class here and my oldest student is 83!!!
I feel like I’m just getting started!

I ditched the perfectionism at 46 I think - at 50... I am imperfectly perfect!
Brilliant! May it continue and be even more epic every year!
What new things have you given a go?
Ya know one of the best things I do now is go with my gut. Decision making has never been so easy and freeeeee.
I do similar with what lights me up! What a brilliant change!!

What a ride you’ve had, Bronwen. Really! You’re a poster girl for flourishing under flucked up circumstances 💖
Here’s to lifelong learning & curiosity! 🥂

That is an epic tale of flourishing, Amber! It's these stories the world needs to hear!
